2017’s Top Comics Include Milton Adaptation and Batman

Having planned hundreds of comic con events over the years, Stephen Shamus is a respected industry presence who heads A-List Talent and arranges appearances at major events. In addition, Stephen Shamus enjoys collecting original illustrations.

A recent Vulture article has drawn attention to the top graphic novels and comic book collections of 2017. Number nine on the list is Gary Panter’s Songy of Paradise. Including influences such as Javanese art, the ambitious graphic novel is an adaptation of John Milton’s poetic classic, Paradise Regained, and casts a country “hick,” Songy, in the role of Jesus. Connoisseurs of Panter’s adaptations of Western classics are bound to enjoy this work, which Vulture describes as portraying expansive and crude vistas and unforgettable and hideous character designs.

Item number seven on Vulture’s list is Tom King’s Batman: The War of Jokes and Riddles, which uses the well-worn tropes of the Dark Knight universe to create something fresh and cinematic. The artists, including colorist, June Chung, and penciller, Mikel Janín, make a huge impression.
